Known for its paleontological deposits (it is also the place where the bones attributed to Paranthropus aethiopicus have been discovered), the Omo Valley is located in southern Ethiopia. The lower valley, a prehistoric site, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This region is best known for the different tribes living there, including the Dassanech, Hamer, Karo and Surma. Body paintings and modifications are deeply rooted in the traditions of these tribes.
