Located in the heart of the oldest city of Ethiopia, the Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion is the largest in the country. It was originally built by the first Christian emperor of Ethiopia, Ezana, and was the place where the emperors and kings of Ethiopia were crowned. According to legends, the Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion shelters the Ark of the Covenant, the chest containing the Tablets of the Law (the Ten Commandments). It was Menelik, first emperor of Ethiopia and son of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba, who brought the Ark of the Temple from Jerusalem to Ethiopia.
