Considered to be one of the most beautiful monasteries on the Zeghe Peninsula, the Ura Kidane Meret is also one of the most important sanctuaries on Lake Tana. Accessible by boat, the monastery is visited by Orthodox Christians of Ethiopia as well as by tourists throughout the year. Circular in shape, it is best known for its biblical frescoes dating from the 18th to the 20th century, which trace the history of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. Inside the monastery is a museum housing Bibles, wreaths and crosses.
