Built on an archaeological site, and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the Tiya stelae were erected between the 10th and 15th centuries. The site of Tiya is one of the most important archaeological sites of Ethiopia- there are 46 megaliths on the site, with the tallest reaching over 5m high. They are all engraved with symbols and surrounded by tombs, suggesting a possible link with ancient funerary rites.
